Men’s Ministry News By Larry Sutherland
Men’s Ministry has been active as we broke into 2007 finishing up our Men’s Fraternity sessions. Pastor Mike and Neal Lordos were doing year one of
Men’s Fraternity “The Quest for Authentic Manhood” on Wednesday nights for those who had not gone through the first session; while Brian Love, Chris Oliver, Larry Sutherland and Todd Hopkins were all doing session two of Men’s Fraternity “Winning at Work and at Home”. Larry and Todd were leading the “early” Wednesday morning session while Brian and Chris were leading our men on Saturday mornings.

We finished all sessions with very positive results and encouraging comments from the men about their growth, awareness of changes needed in their lives and it was a great experience for all. We ordered in crosses for those who completed the courses, and for those who actually accomplished the task for the session for year two we had a plaque made with the graduates names on the plaque. In order to graduate, each man needed to compile 10 key moves they needed to work on and list them and then turn them in to the leaders of each session. The plaque will be hung in the church near the men’s ministry board in the foyer. We are planning on doing “The Great Adventure”, session three this year, starting again in September! Don’t miss out on this session guys.
Thanks to Todd, Brian, Chris and Neal for their commitment and work.
We worked hard on the planning for the men’s retreat held on March 2nd-4th at Twin Rocks Retreat Center again this year and it was a huge success. Thirty-six men signed up for the retreat where the topic “Killing Your Spiritual Giants” was the theme. Professor Ron Frost (PhD) from Multnomah Biblical Seminary was the keynote speaker and brought five challenging and rewarding messages to the men. The messages were followed by small group sessions where they answered questions relating to the session topic and had the chance to interact with each other. Along with the sessions we enjoyed the movie “Facing the Giants” on Saturday night before heading down to the beach for a late bonfire and chance to talk and hang out on the beach! Awesome food, living accommodations, basketball and time to just mentor with each other made for an awesome weekend, not to mention the stop at Tillamook Cheese Factory on the way home for ice cream.
My thanks goes out to the ministry team of Myron Smiens, Dan Larson, George Hulit, and Paul Bingaman for their hard work in making the retreat a success. Pastor Nick Bailey brought the worship music to us all weekend accompanied by Paul Bingaman. Others like Barry Garske, Stefan Pearson were also key in making things operate smoothly for the weekend. Also, a very heart warming thanks from all us guys who attended the retreat goes out to Dr. Ron Frost for an awesome job of sharing, caring and mentoring.
Keep your eyes posted on the men’s ministry board for upcoming opportunities for ministry events.
The Christian Motorcyclist Association is on the board for anyone interested in becoming involved with that group. Until the next event, stay strong, and stay focused on Jesus Christ!!
