What kind of person can live and not see death? Is that even possible? In this day and age of modern medicine people strive for longer lives. What about life support? Can a person be put on life support and let machines take over?
“Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death.” (John 8:51, NASB95)
So many people want to escape death so they look for ways to stay alive. There is only one way and that is to be alive in Jesus.
Obviously Jesus is not speaking about living eternally on earth in this human body. He is speaking of spiritual death. What kind of living person can live and never see spiritual death? The answer from Jesus is clear and trustworthy. If anyone might keep HIS word then that person will “no not never” experience spiritual death but lives in eternal life.
You might say what does this mean? From the point a person believes the words of Jesus for salvation (Jn. 6:63) they enter into an infinite union with God the Father and Jesus (Jn. 14:23) and begin a spiritual journey only seeing life that continues on living into eternity. It is as if the believer turns their back on death once and for all and begins a walk living into eternal life with Jesus.
What is eternal life? Jesus best defines eternal life as this, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3, NASB95)
