Are You In or Out? An Eternal Decision

Jesus is God! Are you committed to Him or not? It is an eternal decision.

There are many hard sayings in the bible that we don’t fully understand. Such as “dying to live”, “the greatest in the kingdom of God is the least of all.” In this passage (John 6:41-71) Jesus declared, “So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.(John 6:53–54)

Is Jesus calling people to cannibalism? Absolutely not! He is calling for a full commitment of accepting Jesus’ death and atonement for sin as the sacrificial Lamb of God. These words are spiritually discerned but the nominal believer or even the casual listener will stumble over these words even to the extent of desertion. Many in the crowd heard these words and stopped following Jesus because they misunderstood Jesus’ teaching. Jesus in turn asked the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” (John 6:67). The disciples had to decide for themselves whether or not they would continue to follow Jesus. All of us have to decide if we will follow Jesus even though we don’t fully understand the hard teachings of the Word of God.

Peter’s response captures the heart of a true Christ follower, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.” Peter and the others did not consider leaving Jesus as an option because they were convinced that Jesus was and is the “Holy One of God.” Did they stumble from time to time? Yes. But they had come to know Jesus as they spent time with Him, and how Jesus revealed to them His divine nature.

Following Jesus is a journey of growing faith. As you walk with Him and come to know Him more and more, your faith will grow and you will become convinced that there is no other way to go other than to follow Jesus. Jesus is not a way to God, He is the only way and is the Holy One of God.
