Caring Comes From God

Have you ever wondered where the heart of a mother came from? The natural ability to nurture seems to be hardwired in women. Often we forget where women came from; God. We look at God as our heavenly father and that is true but we can’t forget that in creation God created both male and female in His own image, Imago Dei. Eve, the mother of all living was created in the image of God. “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27)

Therefore, the paternal and maternal nature is a reflection of God’s nature. Consider the following words of Jesus “…How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.” (Matthew 23:37) Jesus is clearly demonstrating the maternal nature of protecting and nurturing, much like a hen protects her chicks.

How about the words of God through the prophet Isaiah that describes God’s unforgetting love “Can a woman forget her nursing child And have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15)

God is our heavenly father who also has a mother’s heart. God is our provider and our protector. God is the one who cares for us more than we ever will know and will make sure all our needs are met. God is always available to hear our troubles and provide His presence when we are in sorrow. God picks us up when we fall and wipes away all our tears. Where do women get their ability to nurture? They were created to care by God’s design.

Let’s celebrate all women today and how they are beautifully and wonderfully made.
