From Darkness to Light

The moon is a dead stone. It has no light or life in itself. The sun on the other hand is light and is necessary for life. If the sun would suddenly turn off, within a week, the average global surface temperature would drop below 0°F. In a year, it would dip to –100°.
The sun doesn’t merely heat the Earth; it also keeps the planet in orbit. If its mass suddenly disappeared the planets would fly off, like a ball swung on a string and suddenly let go. Therefore it is obvious we need the sun to live.  Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12, NASB95)  Jesus is the SON that gives the Light of Life. True Believers are the followers of Jesus that reflect Jesus’ light of life to the world. We have the light of life only because we have Jesus. Existence without Jesus is as dead as the moon. Just as the moon goes dark when it rotates away from the light, the believer’s witness goes dark when they move away from being in the light of Jesus.  Jesus said on the Sermon on the Mount, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden…Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14, 16, NASB95)  Are you in the Light? How are you reflecting Jesus?
