God Sings Over Us

It was my turn to put our son to bed. He was crying, fussing, and full of energy with eyes wide open. I tried the rocking chair; I walked around the room and held him in different positions. Nothing was working. Still fussing, I sat back down in the rocking chair. I held my son close and began to sing, “Go to bed. Go to bed. Lay down your sleepy head. Go to bed, go to bed, you can play when you wake again. There’ll be toys, and books to read, you can even wrestle with Daddy. But for now, it’s time for bed, sleepy head.” Eventually, his body began to relax, the crying softened, and he laid his head on my shoulder, content in the safety and love of his father’s arms.

Did you know that our Heavenly Father delights in us with joyful singing? Zephaniah 3:17 paints a mind-blowing picture of “Abba” Father!

The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.

Father God is living among us. He will never abandon us or leave us hopeless. (Hebrews 13:5). He takes care of us daily and meets every need. (Matthew 6:25-34) As the song lyric says, “may we become more aware of Your Presence.”

Father God is the Mighty One who has forgiven all our sins and healed all our diseases. Father has rescued our lives from the pit and corruption. He crowns us with lovingkindness and tender mercies (Psalm 103:3-4). We are born of God. We are His children (John 1:12-13).

Father God delights in us. He is not mad or angry with us. He is glad that we are His children. We are His chosen people. We are holy and dearly loved by Father. He wants us to imitate Him (Ephesians 5:1-4).

Father God quits us with His love. Every fear is calmed, every anxious thought dissipates and our hearts find rest when Father holds us in His arms.

Father God is SO pleased with us and SO in love with us that He breaks out in joyful song.

What an astounding picture of God’s love for us, His children! Today and every day, let’s exuberantly and fervently praise and worship the Lord our God who delights in us, even with joyful singing!
