Grace Gift

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, NASB95)

This time of year, some people begin to enter into the panic mode of Christmas shopping. They are looking for the perfect gift to give to their coworkers, friends, and loved ones. People will consider all kinds of things from personal needs to meeting particular desires in order to purchase the perfect gift for Christmas. The funny thing is that this kind of stress happens at least twice a year for people. Every birthday, Christmas, and possibly anniversaries (if you remember), the pressure of buying the perfect gift sets in. Why so much stress? Because we hope the present we give will bring joy.

Grace is the perfect gift that God gives to mankind. The fact that God allows sinful man to take a breath is a grace gift. From the time that a person enters this world, God is gifting a grace gift of existence, equally to the just and the unjust (Matt. 5:45). Why does God allow His grace to be shown to all mankind? Because God has provided a greater grace gift that is waiting for man to receive; the gift of eternal life through His son Jesus. Our deepest need is not existence in this world but the gift of new life. Jesus purchased new life for man when He paid the price for man’s sin with His death.

Jesus died in our place so we might receive the grace gift of eternal life from God. Have you received the grace gift of eternal life from God through His Son, Jesus? If not, God has a present for you right now with your name on it, yours for the taking. Will you receive the gift of eternal life? How might you ask? Through faith! The Apostle Paul describes how a person receives God’s great grace gift: “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” (Romans 10:9–10, NASB95)

May you experience the greatest CHRISTmas of all by accepting the greatest gift of all, Jesus.
