“And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”” (Luke 2:13–14, NASB95)
There are very few instances where man is given a window into heaven, let alone heavenly worship, but this is one of them. Another instance is when Daniel describes his vision of heaven, ““A river of fire was flowing And coming out from before Him; Thousands upon thousands were attending Him, And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him; The court sat, And the books were opened.” (Daniel 7:10, NASB95) This vision, along with the angelic throng on the night of Jesus’ birth, reveals the ministry of heavenly worship. On a dark night near Bethlehem, angels suddenly appeared and led a concert for the shepherds demonstrating what real heavenly worship looks like. Real heavenly worship declares the glory of God and celebrates His majesty.
Heavenly worship is the worship of God in the highest way. All creation is called to worship God, and when the heavens and humans praise God together, we harmonize in worship of the almighty God just as if we were at the feet of God’s throne. We must realize that worship of God is always taking place before the throne of God (Revelation 4 & 5), and as humans, when we worship God on earth, we are joining in with the worship of God that is already taking place in heaven. This is an amazing privilege that is given to us through Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
What is the theme of this particular worship session? Worship God and praise Him because of the great salvation that has appeared for all mankind through the birth of Jesus. Worship God and praise Him because God is no longer distant but has come near through Jesus, who is called Immanuel “God with us.” Worship God and praise Him because through Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection, we now can have peace with God and with each other.
