Hidden Treasure

“that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:26–27, NASB95)

The church has been made stewards of the greatest treasure that the universe has ever seen. The hidden treasure Paul speaks of is based in the message, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” God’s redemptive plan for eternal life in Christ Jesus was a hidden treasure to all generations prior to Jesus’ incarnation and sacrifice and remains a hidden treasure to the unregenerate. People don’t know how valuable something is until they see it for themselves and experience its beauty and glory. The same is true about God’s redemptive plan through Jesus. Jesus is God’s treasure of eternal life for you as you are placed in the body of Christ.

God has selected the church as stewards of this treasure, not to be stored up for themselves, but to be declared through the preaching of the gospel. The message, “Christ in you, the hope of glory,” is the blessing of the indwelling of Jesus in the life of the believer, providing an eternal hope of salvation. Jesus is our hope for glory because, through Him, we share in eternal life and eternal inheritance.

If you had the cure for cancer, would you hoard that treasure for yourself or share it with the world? Paul counted it a joy to be commissioned as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was driven to preach this gospel message to everyone revealing this hidden treasure for all to see. When you preach the gospel, you are revealing the treasure of eternal life to dead people.

May you share the treasure of Jesus with everyone you see.
