Mindset – Mind Set

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:6-8

What is your Mindset? Or rather, as the passage above says, what is your “Mind set on?”

I’ve been reading through Romans recently, and the Lord has really been hammering me on my Mindset. Is my mind set on the things of the Spirit? Am I actively doing the work of setting my mind on Godly things? A lot of the time, the answer is no if I were honest.

Interestingly enough, the mind is a battlefield that the enemy of our souls knows well. This is why God’s Word reminds us over and over that winning the battle in our minds is by setting it up for success spiritually.

Paul said in his epistle to the Philippians, “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Setting our minds on Christ and His love and His work is a necessary step in victory in our minds. As 2 Corinthians 10:5 states, “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,”

So back to the first question, What is your Mindset? The answer is in finding out what your mind is set on. And that is something we actively have control over. Set your mind on Christ this week. Instead of despair and hopelessness, have hope in Christ! Set your mind on the hope you have because of the Gospel. Set your mind on the eternal truth of God’s everlasting love and the salvation He brought to you in Christ!

Setting my mind on Christ,
Pastor Mike
