On Mission

There is a special urgency in doing the works of God. Why? Because there is a limited time to accomplish the work of witnessing to the world. Typically the day is the time for work because it is light. When night would come all work would stop because of darkness. As long as the sun is up it is imperative to accomplish the work of the day.  “We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. “While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.” (John 9:4–5, NASB95)
For Jesus and the disciples, that day was drawing to a close because the darkness of night following the cross which was only a short time away. Then for a period of time between the cross and the giving of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2) the work of salvation would be stopped and the work of ministry on earth would be paused. Jesus never stopped being “the Light of the World”, even after His ascension, but now that light is in a mutual partnership with the Holy Spirit dwelling within the life of the believer.
The Church is still on mission. We must work the works of Him…as long as it is day. As the church we are called to continue in partnership with the works of salvation as His lights.  “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;” …“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14, 16, NASB95)  Our world is getting darker and night is when the evangelistic work of God stops. We will not always be in the world but as long as the Church is in the world we are to be on mission doing the works of God which is sharing the gospel unto salvation.
While you still have opportunity and there is still light, do the works of Jesus and be faithful to your mission.
