Promise Made…Promise Kept

“Every promise of Scripture is a writing of God, which may be pleaded before Him with this reasonable request, ‘Do as Thou has said.’ The Heavenly Father will not break His Word to His own child.” Charles H. Spurgeon

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.” (Matthew 28:5–6, NASB95)

Consider the promises of God and whether or not you can believe them. God promises to provide for you. God promises to forgive you of your sins. God promises to give you eternal life. God promises to never leave you as an orphan or alone. How can we trust God to keep His Word? The answer is found in the promise kept by Jesus’ resurrection and proven by the empty tomb. Jesus promised that the tomb would not hold him, that death would not keep him and that He would rise again 3 days later after death on the cross. Even the religious leaders knew of this promise to rise again after three days, “Now on the next day, the day after the preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate, and said, “Sir, we remember that when He was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I am to rise again.’” (Matthew 27:62–63, NASB95)

The resurrection of Jesus, not only proves that God will keep His word, but also gives us a guaranteed hope that we will also rise from the dead just as Paul says, “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming,” (1 Corinthians 15:22–23, NASB95) Because HE LIVES we will live also. Praise God!

Why is Resurrection Sunday so important to the believer? Because it gives us hope and assurance that all those who are in Christ, though they might die in this world will be resurrected unto glory, just as Jesus has risen and is alive. Today is a celebration of Resurrection Sunday and the fact that our Savior lives and God keeps His promises.

“This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.” (1 John 2:25, NASB95)
