Set Free

The worst kind of slavery is when someone is in bondage and doesn’t even know it. That person thinks he is free when he really is a slave. For example consider the self-deception of an addict who says, “I’m in control of my addiction; I can stop whenever I want to.”  The answer to that lie is, “No, you cannot stop anytime you want to because you are in bondage to your addiction.”
“Everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin…So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”  (John 8: 34, 36)
You are a slave to your addiction that holds you in bondage. Without Jesus you are a slave to sin and cannot stop sinning whenever you want.
The whole human race is born into sin and is a slave to sin. We are in bondage to our flesh and sin that rules over us. As Paul stated in Romans 3:23, “all have sinned.” This means that the whole human race is slaves to sin. Some might say, “I can control my sin, give me a list of rules and I will follow them and not sin.” God gave the 10 commandments to follow, how is that working for sinners? MORE BONDAGE! Now there is bondage in sin and bondage in the law.
There is only one hope for freedom and that is through Jesus Christ, who came and paid the debt for the sin of mankind and fulfilled all the requirements of the law with His righteousness. He then offers to input His righteousness upon all those who believe, resulting in freedom from sin and thus making the believer free from the slavery of sin and the bondage of the law. How then should the free person live? Paul said it best, “But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:22–23)  The SON makes you free, you will be free indeed. Praise God you are now free.
