Standing On The Promises Of God

Dwight L. Mood once said, “God never made a promise that was too good to be true.I personally would add to that, “God has never made a promise that He is not willing nor able to fulfill.” There are some things in this life that seem too good to be true. There are some people who find it hard to trust in God because of how others have let them down. We can find great encouragement from God’s Word that proves we can trust in God. Paul wrote words of encouragement to the church of Corinth with this statement;

For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20, NASB95)

Paul was referring to the Old Testament promises of God, especially as it refers to the adoption of God’s people, God’s promise to Abraham to have a son, God’s promise of a Messiah to the nation of Israel, and among others, God’s promise of the inclusion of the Gentiles in the kingdom of God. These promises are trustworthy, a “Yes,” and all fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

As a Christ follower, we can stand on all the promises of God that are written in the complete Word of God, the Bible. God is faithful to fulfill all of

His Word without exception. In this day and age of uncertainty, where we question all authority and their ability to keep their word, we can have confidence in the promises of God. God promises that He will finish what He starts (Philippians 1:6). Jesus promises that He will never leave us or forsake us (Matthew 28:19). And we are promised victory and the present power of God as we journey through this world (1 John 4:4). Among the great promises of God is the keeping power of God, the promise that nothing can separate us from God (Romans 8:35-39).

As children of the living God, may we not be moved or shaken during times of distress. Our Father in Heaven has given us His promises, and He always keeps His Word. I encourage you to stand with me on the promises of God, and may we all share these promises with a fearful world.

In His Service,

Pastor Cary
