Take Time To Be Still

Do you remember a time when you had been caught in a thunderstorm, hailstorm, or maybe a snowstorm? If you were driving a car at the time, it is very possible that you began to grip the steering wheel a bit tighter. You began to focus and pay closer attention to your surroundings. If you were outside playing or walking, you began to pull your coat in closer, throw up your hood, lean into the wind and run for cover! Once you walk through the front door of you home and push it closed . . . a sigh escapes your lips, your body relaxes, and the first thing you notice is the silence. The winds may still blow outside, but inside, everything is still, calm, and peaceful.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength,
a very ready help in trouble.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

When life takes an unexpected turn. When you find yourself leaning against the blowing winds of life, walk through the front door of your refuge (God Himself) and push it closed (push the pause button on life/step out of the traffic of life) and BE STILL! Let a sigh escape your lips. Let your body relax. Stop struggling!

Now pause . . . calmly think . . . take a long, loving look at your High God. Spend time in His word. Worship Him! You will be reminded that every fear is stilled, and every anxiety is quieted. God is above everything! He will never leave you. He will NEVER abandon you (Hebrews 13:5). He is your Helper (Hebrews 13:6). He is your Shepherd (Psalm 23:1). He is a place of shelter, protection, and safety. He is your strength (Psalm 46:1). After a while, you will be able to proclaim with the psalmist, “we will not fear, though the earth shakes and the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride” (Psalm 46:2-3).

Rain OR shine, take time to be still.
