The King is Coming

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9)
The whole nation of Israel was encouraged to look forward to and welcome the coming king, “your king who comes to you.” This great King is the one who brings with Him salvation for all. For Israel, the long awaited Messiah had come, the one who would bring peace to the land that had been ravaged by the constant attacks of enemies. The first advent of this triumphal entry was on Palm Sunday, 30 AD. Unfortunately, many missed the coming of the Lord, rejected Jesus as King and then suffered once again at the hands of their enemies.
The world today needs a real King, a true savior that will bring peace and that person is Jesus. He is the King who has come to save and bring redemption to all mankind. There is a new cry that resonates among the people of God, Maranatha – “Lord Come.” Even the act of communion reminds us of Jesus’ first advent and causes us to look forward to His return. “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. (1 Corinthians 11:26)
Jesus is our Lord, thus our prayer and confession is that our Lord is coming. Do you live with an expectation of the Lord’s coming? We should live under the urgent hope of Jesus’ imminent return knowing that when He comes in His second advent He will destroy once and for all our greatest enemies, Satan, Sin and Death, thus taking up His throne forever.
