This Is Our God

You’ve been waiting for this day to come for some time. It’s been on your calendar. The day has finally arrived for you to connect with a close friend that you don’t get to see or talk to often. Maybe you live in different locations, or the seasons of life keep you apart. When you finally see each other, you pick up right where you left off. It’s like you’ve never been apart.

During your conversation, one of you says, “Remember when . . .?” Your mind floods with many images of the event, along with conversations and circumstances. It brings a smile to your face.

Today, we are going to learn a new song entitled “This Is Our God,” written by Phil Wickham. The verses to this song say, “Remember when . . .?” Remember your life before Jesus became your Savior? Each of us was consumed by sin and shame. They were like prison walls that we couldn’t escape. We had giants in our life called death and grave. There were mountains in our lives that stood in our way. But Jesus! He came, died, and rose again! Those walls are rubble now! Those giants are dead now!

In this the love of God was manifested toward us,
that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world,
that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 4:9-10

He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross,
so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness;
for by His wounds you were healed.
1 Peter 2:24

Right now, there is probably a smile on your face. As you’ve been reading this, you have been remembering what God has done in your life. You are remembering His faithfulness to you, and He has never once failed you, and He never will!

“This is our God, this is who He is, He loves us.
This is our God, this is what He does, He saves us.
He bore the cross, beat the grave,
Let heaven and earth proclaim,
This is our God, King Jesus.”

These are the words to the song’s chorus we are learning today. Sing them with a smile on your face. Remember that God has been good to you. He has rescued you from the pit of destruction. He paid for all your sin. He has rescued you from the grave. Jesus is the one who gets all the glory and praise. This is Our God, King Jesus!
