Truth Is In Jesus

But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, (Ephesians 4:20-21)

What way? Paul says you did not learn Christ in this way. In the verses before these, the Apostle Paul commands the Ephesian believers not to walk like they used to. Being influenced by the world, trusting in the flesh and in our hard hearts. We didn’t learn Christ that way!

In fact, it took a literal life change, actually a miracle from God that gave me a new life in Christ. This life didn’t learn Christ through the flesh. It learns about the truth of God through the Word of God because the truth is in Jesus!

This truth changes me. He goes on to tell us these truths.

  • Vs. 24 – and to put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
  • Vs. 25 – Therefore, ridding yourselves of falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE OF YOU WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, because we are parts of one another.
  • Vs. 26 – BE ANGRY, AND YET DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger,
  • Vs. 27 – and do not give the devil an opportunity.
  • Vs. 28 – The one who steals must no longer steal; but rather he must labor, producing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with the one who has need.
  • Vs. 29 – Let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but if there is any good word for edification according to the need of the moment, say that, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
  • Vs. 30 – Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
  • Vs. 31 – All bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice.
  • Vs. 32 – Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Look at this list. Put on the new self! Don’t lie; speak truth! Be angry but do not sin! Don’t give the devil an opportunity! Don’t steal. Give to those in need! Speak good words that edify! Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit! Get rid of bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, and malice! Instead, be kind, compassionate, forgiving as Christ did!

The truth in Jesus is a lot less complicated than we think. Sometimes I wonder if it may seem hard to live because we are making it complicated and trying to live in the flesh instead of the new life in the Spirit! A lot of these things also mean giving up and replacing them with things that God wants in our lives. Are we willing?
