Are You Ready To See Jesus?

““Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.” (Matthew 24:42, NASB95)
“When He returns is not as important as the fact that we are ready for Him when He does return.” ― A.W. Tozer, Preparing for Jesus’ Return: Daily Live the Blessed Hope

There is a great danger in the Christian life of spiritual drifting. Lack of intentional focus will result in a life that wanders. One of the greatest dangers on the road today are distracted drivers. People eating, putting on make–up, talking on the cell phone, or even sleeping will result in drifting while driving and, if not corrected, a devastating wreck. The same is true spiritually. In the parable of the servants (Matt.24:45-51), Jesus illustrates the difference between a “Faithful / Unfaithful” steward. The master has placed the steward in charge of the household, anticipating caring for the other servants and the household’s needs while the master is gone. The faithful steward serves the master well in the absence of the master with a view of the master returning at any time. The unfaithful steward lives as if there is no accountability and the master will never hold the servant responsible. The unfaithful stewards have rejected any and all responsibility and are not ready to see their master.

When the master returns, what will he discover? In the case of the faithful steward, the master will find a servant living unapologetically faithful to their responsibilities. They can stand before the master guilt-free because they are ready for the return of the master at any given time. On the other hand, the unfaithful steward was hoping that the master would stay away a long time, and if or when the master would return, he would not hold the servant accountable for being wicked.

Christ-followers should stay laser-focused and remain faithful about the Lord’s work, honoring Him in every area of life. They should live in light of the imminent return of Jesus, knowing that they will be held responsible to give an account for their life and the Lord’s work. Jesus expects us to be ready for His return and able to present to Him the fruit of ministry. Who is the unfaithful servant? The one who rejects the authority of Jesus and lives as if they will never have to answer for their life. They seek to do evil rather than demonstrate love, and when Jesus returns, it will be too late for them. Are you ready to see Jesus?
